Why slow, steady weight loss wins, according to dietitian Jo Sebastian.
With summer just around the corner, many people are aiming for a fitter and healthier body. But according to content creator and dietitian Jo Sebastian, quick fixes and crash diets are not always the best solution.
Speaking during the “Mindful Snacking” event organized by Mondelēz International, Sebastian reminded everyone that losing weight fast does not always mean achieving long-term results.
“Well, number one, just because a diet helps you lose weight fast doesn’t mean it’s effective,” she said.
She explained that rapid weight loss often leads to gaining the weight back just as quickly, sometimes even more. Instead of focusing on seasonal goals, Sebastian encouraged people to build habits that can last a lifetime.
“Kasi the faster you lose weight, usually the faster you gain it back, plus more. So most importantly, think longer hindi lang for this season of summer, but also for the season of your life,” she shared.
For Sebastian, there are no real shortcuts when it comes to health and fitness. She noted that many fast transformations, especially among celebrities, are often achieved with the support of an entire team of experts such as nutritionists, dietitians, and trainers.
“Fast weight loss is not always effective weight loss. Madalas it’s done in very unsustainable ways or with the help of a team,” she said.
She ended by reminding individuals to take things at their own pace and focus more on their health than the numbers on the scale.
For an average individual, it’s definitely okay to take it slow because realistically, iyon ang mag-stick talaga. Most importantly, prioritize health over the number on the scale.
