Multimedia drag star and ‘Drag Race Philippines Season 2’ finalist Matilduh recounts a violent encounter during a bar performance in La Union, sparking outrage, solidarity, and calls for accountability.

What was meant to be a night of celebration and performance turned into a frightening ordeal for multimedia drag star and “Drag Race Philippines Season 2” finalist Matilduh after a violent altercation erupted during a bar show in La Union.

Taking to social media, Matilduh detailed how an evening that was “supposed to be a night of fun” in Hara La Union escalated into chaos after he reported a group of unruly guests to the bouncer. According to the drag performer, the individuals were already being disruptive, pushing their friend and repeatedly bumping into other customers, including him.

The cause of commotion

“Last night, I got into an incident just because I reported some people to the bouncer for being rowdy at their table—pushing their friend and bumping into people multiple times, including me. While partying at Ate Joyang’s table, suddenly a guy attacked me and pulled my wig, saying, “Ano sinumbong mo kami?!”

Shocked and caught off guard, instinct took over, Matilduh said. “Siyempre lumaban ako kasi alam kong mali ‘yong ginagawa nila, lalo na’t sinabunutan niya ako and then pushed me multiple times till I lost balance.”

Bouncers quickly intervened and reprimanded the aggressor, allowing Matilduh to retreat backstage to remove his costume and regain composure. He then informed fellow queen Martha Amethyst, who accompanied him back inside the venue.

“Binalikan namin sila sa loob ng Hara. ‘Pag pasok, I shouted, ‘asan yung nanabunot sakin?’” Matilduh recounted.

The confrontation escalated further when the man reportedly stepped forward, shouting curses, raising his middle finger, and attempting to charge again before bouncers and servers restrained him.

“He stepped forward cursing, shouting, and putting up a middle finger. Ang lakas pa ng loob na manlaban. He charged toward me, but the bouncers and servers intervened. Sabi ko, “Palabasin niyo na ‘yan.”

“Hara is Our Safe Space”

As onlookers reacted, the music was stopped, and Matilduh’s sister Empy took to the microphone to remind everyone to respect drag performers. Matilduh followed, speaking directly to the crowd about what had happened.

“Hara is our safe space, and if you plan on doing things like that, you’re better off not going. I commend the management of Hara for standing by our side and protecting us, and thank everyone who checked up on me.”

Social media personality Joyang later posted another video angle of the incident, showing the exact moment Matilduh’s wig was violently pulled and how he was shoved to the ground.

“Hara La Union incident: @matilduhh hiniklasan ng wig while partying sa aming table. Drag is art. Drag queens are human. Respect them—ALWAYS! Drag queens deserve dignity, safety, and love,” Joyang wrote.

In response, Hara La Union released an official statement, apologizing to Matilduh and reiterating their zero-tolerance policy toward violence and harassment.

“During a recent incident involving our guest drag queen, Matilduh, when her wig was pulled, we immediately stopped the party. The individual responsible was removed from the venue without hesitation and permanently banned. This behavior is unacceptable and will never be tolerated at Hara.”

“We sincerely apologize to Matilduh and to our community for the distress this caused. We are committed to strengthening staff response and safety measures to ensure this does not happen again.”

“We will act decisively against anyone who threatens the safety and dignity of our community. Safe spaces exist, and they must be protected.”

In a later update, Matilduh confirmed that the individual responsible has been identified and that the management of Hara La Union is now coordinating closely with them as they prepare to file formal charges.

“Apparently, this wasn’t the first time he had done something like this, and he had been reported to the authorities before for similar behavior. Thank you to everyone who sent their support, and to Hara La Union’s management for helping us.”

“We will be pressing charges against this person. Justice will be served.”

The incident has since sparked widespread condemnation online, with fellow performers, fans, and advocates rallying behind Matilduh and reiterating the urgent call for respect, accountability, and safety for drag artists and the LGBTQIA+ community.
