Nostalgia took center stage as Eat Bulaga celebrated its 47th anniversary with the much-awaited return of its beloved “Lola” trio.
Fans were delighted to once again see Paolo Ballesteros as Lola Tidora, Wally Bayola as Lola Nidora, and Jose Manalo as Lola Tinidora during Saturday’s anniversary episode.
The iconic characters brought back fond memories as they reunited on stage with Yaya Dub, the breakout character portrayed by Maine Mendoza that became a nationwide phenomenon in 2015.
The reunion instantly transported viewers back to the height of the show’s wildly popular Kalyeserye, where the “de Explorer” sisters served as the protective triplets who played a pivotal role in the love story of Alden Richards and Mendoza
The pairing, popularly known as AlDub, became one of the biggest television phenomena of its generation.
“Kalyeserye” premiered on July 16, 2015, quickly capturing the hearts of millions of Filipinos through its unique blend of romance, comedy, and improvisation.
Its landmark “Tamang Panahon” special, held at the Philippine Arena on Oct. 24, 2015, drew a massive crowd and generated a record-breaking 41 million tweets in a single day, making it one of the most talked-about television events on social media.
The beloved storyline concluded on Dec. 17, 2016, but its cultural impact continues to resonate with fans.
The surprise reunion of the Lola trio and Yaya Dub served as one of the highlights of “Eat Bulaga’s” anniversary celebration, reminding longtime viewers of the characters and storylines that helped define an era of Philippine noontime television.
