Elijah Canlas calls out Senate drama, urges vigilance vs ‘stalling’ senators

The actor criticizes government theatrics, warns against stalled work, and calls on Filipinos to stay informed and engaged.

“Drags to Riches” star Elijah Canlas is not holding back his thoughts on the ongoing political theatrics in government, calling out public officials for prioritizing spectacle over their actual legislative duties.

In a recent interview with radar Entertainment, the award-winning actor expressed his frustration over the drama in the Upper Chamber, dubbed by netizens as “Senateflix.”

“Naku po. Ako nga tini-try kong ‘wag magpadala kasi it’s stalling, you know? They’re just really doing drama. They’re not really doing the work that they’re supposed to do,” Canlas remarked.

Recognizing the country’s turbulent socio-political climate, Canlas emphasized the public’s right to demand accountability, reminding everyone that ordinary citizens bear the brunt of these political maneuverings.

“Kung anuman ‘yong pinag-uusapan nila doon, part tayo ng lahat ng ‘yon. And tayo ‘yong nakakaranas ng totoong nangyayari. So, we have the right to really be aware at makialam,” he asserted, urging Filipinos to stay engaged for the sake of the nation.

Canlas’ civic mindfulness comes as no surprise; the actor is a proud “Iskolar ng Bayan,” currently taking up Philippine studies at the University of the Philippines Manila. He is also set to bring his advocacy to the big screen, starring as Martial Law activist Edgar Jopson in a highly anticipated biopic set for release in September 2026.
