Netizens weigh in on doctor, lawyer, and other profession plates displayed on vehicles.
During your daily commute, you may have seen these small “PLS DO NOT DELAY” metal plates attached to the front bumper of several vehicles on the road.
While originally associated with physicians responding to emergencies, these profession emblems have become common among non-medical professionals too, including lawyers, engineers, and accountants.
The plates became a hot topic on Reddit, with many users debating whether they still serve a purpose or have become a status symbol.
“Let’s be honest, usually the purpose pag ganyan is to get some sort of leeway sa traffic rules. Pang intimidate lang,” a user commented.
What profession emblems indicate
Profession plates have long been used by doctors, especially since physicians responding to emergencies are exempt from Metro Manila’s number coding scheme.
These plates can help traffic enforcers identify vehicles carrying doctors without having to stop them. It may also signal that medical assistance could be available during road emergencies.

But not all netizens are pleased with such moves.
“Parang ewan lang mga nagla lagay ng ganito sa plaka, kesyo proud lang daw sa pinaghirapan,” one commenter said.
Is it legal?
Despite the criticism, profession emblems are not prohibited—as long as they do not obstruct the vehicle’s license plate.
They are widely sold online and in auto shops, but they are not officially regulated and carry no legal authority. Buyers are generally not required to present proof that they belong to the profession displayed.
For some users, displaying these emblems is simply a way of taking pride in their profession.
“Pinaghirapan nila yan and if proud sila edi well and good. Might not be your cup of tea pero hindi naman problematic generally,” a user said.
“Ang di lang okay,” the user added, “is if they will use it to take advantage and get unfair privileges sa daan.”
