The delegation missed its scheduled flight because of an “unexpected transportation issue.”

A Filipino combat sports delegation that won 18 medals for the country is now stranded in Hainan, China, after an unexpected transportation issue caused them to miss their scheduled flight home.

The athletes competed at the International Sport Kickboxing Association (ISKA) Sanya Elite Invitational in Sanya, China, from August 4 to 10, 2026, where the Philippine delegation collected four gold, seven silver and seven bronze medals.

But what should have been a triumphant journey home took an unexpected turn.

According to an appeal shared by Pinoy Boxing Prodigy, the delegation missed its scheduled flight because of an “unexpected transportation issue,” leaving the group stranded in China. They now need around ₱108,000 for replacement plane tickets and currently have approximately ₱40,000.

The delegation includes Gerwin Akiapas Lete, Gregory Mamuad, NJ Calabias, Jhay Sharezer Gayman, Sharma Devaiah and Jhaymie Gayman.

With the athletes unable to return home without new tickets, the group is seeking donations to cover the remaining cost. Supporters are also being encouraged to share their appeal to reach more people.
