Former actress Gretchen Barretto appears to be enjoying a quieter life away from the spotlight, and she made it clear that she has no plans to return to acting anytime soon.
radar spotted the former actress at the screening of Cinemalaya 2026, where she showed her support for Philippine independent cinema. Among the films she watched was “Mag-iina,” starring Agot Isidro, Cherry Pie Picache, Jackie Lou Blanco, and Janine Gutierrez.
Dressed simply yet looking effortlessly elegant, Gretchen attended the event in support of the 22nd edition of the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival.
During a brief encounter with veteran entertainment columnist Gorgy Rula, Gretchen was asked whether she was considering a comeback to acting.
Her response was short and clear: “to acting? No.”
When asked if she was happy with her life now, Gretchen simply replied, “Yes I’m happy.”
Her appearance at Cinemalaya served as a reminder of her own connection to the independent film scene.
In 2013, Gretchen starred in “The Diplomat Hotel,” her sole Cinemalaya entry and independent film. The psychological horror-thriller was directed and written by Christopher Ad. Castillo and competed in the New Breed section of the 9th Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival.
While Gretchen has stepped away from acting, her latest appearance shows that her appreciation for Philippine cinema remains.
For now, however, it seems the former actress is content watching from the audience rather than returning to the screen.
