Joshua Garcia, Julia Barretto reunite to revive JoshLia magic in new film

Former onscreen sweethearts reunite under director Cathy Garcia-Sampana for ‘Always Yours, Never Mine.’

Nearly a decade after they first captured audiences as JoshLia, Joshua Garcia and Julia Barretto are opening a new chapter in their onscreen partnership with Star Cinema’s upcoming film “Always Yours, Never Mine.”

The highly anticipated reunion comes two years after their successful 2024 film “Un/Happy for You,” which brought the former onscreen couple back together after pursuing separate projects for several years.

Now, Joshua and Julia are set to share the big screen once again, this time under the direction of acclaimed filmmaker Cathy Garcia-Sampana. “Always Yours, Never Mine” is scheduled to premiere in cinemas on September 30.

Star Cinema recently gave audiences an early look at the project through the release of Joshua and Julia’s screen test, immediately putting the spotlight back on the chemistry that made JoshLia one of the most recognizable pairings of their generation.

For Julia, her experience working with Joshua on “Un/Happy for You” also influenced how she approached the projects she wanted to pursue after the film.

In a previous interview with radar Entertainment, she shared that the success of the movie made her more intentional about choosing her next roles. “Sobra ko pong saya sa ‘Unhappy For You,’ ginusto kong mas maingat sa susunod kong gagawin,” she said.

Rather than simply taking on projects one after another, Julia said she wanted to make sure her next work would give her a deeper sense of fulfillment.

“Gusto kong maging masaya sa proyekto na gagawin ko. I want to finish the project na fulfilled ako, na may impact siya sa akin. So, naghintay ako ng tamang timing. You just have to be patient. God is good, dumating ’to. Also, I have an exciting project na naisasabay ko with this,” she explained during our interview for her upcoming MMFF 2026 movie entry “Haunted Carnival.”

Their latest reunion also carries a sense of nostalgia for longtime JoshLia fans. Joshua and Julia first worked together in “Vince and Kath and James” in 2016, before becoming one of the most followed young tandems in Philippine entertainment.

They went on to star together in films such as “Love You to the Stars and Back,” “Unexpectedly Yours,” and “I Love You, Hater,” while also appearing together in the television series “Block Z.”

Their 2024 reunion in “Un/Happy for You” proved that their onscreen partnership could still draw audiences years after their earlier projects.

With “Always Yours, Never Mine,” JoshLia is once again stepping into a new story—giving fans another chance to see Joshua and Julia share the screen while marking another milestone in their long-running professional partnership.
