When fine art meets high fashion, it tells a rich cultural story.

Launched at Discovery Primea, Sansó X Happy Andrada: “Art Inspires Fashion” features a striking 30-piece collection that connects the legacy of master painter Juvenal Sansó with the vision of contemporary designer Happy Andrada. This collaboration brings Sansó’s impressive visual archive—including his famous Black Bouquets, abstracts, and Moderno Series—into wearable art. Interestingly, Sansó started in fashion by funding his art studies in Paris through textile designs for renowned European fashion houses like Balenciaga.

For Andrada, an NCCA Ani ng Dangal awardee, the creative process was intuitive and emotional. She reimagined Sansó’s themes by mixing modern and traditional dressmaking techniques such as hand-painting, airbrushing, crochet, and embroidery. A standout feature of the collection is a series of unique, gender-neutral barong bibs made for a universal fit. Supporting local craftsmanship, Andrada used beautiful handwoven textiles from various Philippine weaving communities, including Ilocos, Cavite, Lake Sebu, and Sulu. She collaborated closely with artisanal groups like Hiblang Cavite and Narda’s Weaves.

The collection’s runway debut at Discovery Primea celebrated Filipino artistry through a full multi-sensory experience. Guests enjoyed beautiful floral backdrops by Amante Fleurs and live musical performances. From the welcoming sounds of Rondalla De Canoy in the foyer to a nostalgic opening by vocal group Acapellago, the energy built up to a dramatic runway show with the multicultural sounds of Anima Tierra. The outfits were complemented by stunning pieces from Hiyas Jeweller, while hosts Issa Litton and Anne Gauthier kept the evening lively.

This collaboration also represents an important act of cultural stewardship. In line with Sansó’s vision of mentoring young talent, Happy Andrada will donate a significant portion of the collection’s proceeds to support Fundacion Sansó’s scholarship and arts programs. For those interested in unique wearable art, the capsule collection is available for purchase at the Fundacion Sansó museum shop in San Juan or online at fundacionsanso.shop and their official social media pages.
