Commuters have a new tool for budgeting their transportation expenses and navigating unfamiliar routes.
IT graduate Patricia Quitoriano has developed SakayGo, a website where commuters can calculate jeepney, bus, and tricycle fares—and discover routes that other navigation apps often miss.
Quitoriano, now an associate engineer in technical publications, told radar she built the platform as a response to the recent oil price hikes. She also realized that commuters have no way to verify whether they’re being charged the correct fare amid frequent fare adjustments.
“Minsan kasi wala kang choice kundi magtiwala sa sasabihin ng driver dahil wala kang ibang reference,” she said. “Gusto kong magkaroon ng tool na pwedeng gamitin ng kahit sino, anumang oras, para malaman nila kaagad kung tama ba ang sinisingil sa kanila, para hindi na sila malagay sa ganoong sitwasyon.”
SakayGo calculates fares using official Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board fare matrices. For LGU- or municipality-regulated fares, Quitoriano said she verifies rates through local ordinances and feedback from residents.
Eventually, she wants to make parts of the platform crowdsourced.
“Ang mismong commuters ang magcoconfirm o magre-report kung tama o luma na ang fare information,” she said.
As for the website’s navigation aspect, Quitoriano noted that outside Metro Manila, commuters often end up asking strangers or guessing their way through the jeepney or tricycle routes.
“Especially sa mga lugar like Antipolo at Rizal, ay hindi maayos na naka-map sa Google Maps,” she said.
The platform also features “Ask SakayGo AI,” which allows users to ask fare and route-related questions in Tagalog, English, or Taglish using natural language.
SakayGo is now accessible online through its official website at https://f.mtr.cool/jqzaxerten.
