Boy Abunda details their two-hour reunion where Kris opened up about politics and health struggles.
Kris Aquino has revealed the government post she would want if given the chance to enter politics: Secretary of Health.
“Yes, Boy, if I’m given the chance, I’d like to be Secretary of Health,” Aquino told longtime friend Boy Abunda during their first face-to-face conversation in 11 years.
During an interview ahead of his birthday on Oct. 29, Abunda recalled how their conversation lasted more than two hours and also included Aquino’s son Bimby. The two discussed various aspects of their lives, including love, family, work and politics.
Aquino’s answer came amid a discussion of her life experiences and years of dealing with serious health challenges.
Living with illness
During the interview, Aquino opened up about her continuing health struggles and the realities of living with an autoimmune disease.
“There are good days,” Abunda recalled her saying, describing how a day of work could leave her bedridden for several days afterward.
The two also discussed money, particularly the financial demands of dealing with a prolonged illness.
Abunda said their conversation also touched on Aquino’s children, Josh and Bimby. Aquino spoke about Josh’s generosity and kindness, while Bimby shared his determination to look after his older brother.
A friendship that spans decades
Abunda said their conversation flowed naturally because they had known each other for years and could easily finish each other’s sentences. Their shared experiences of success, failure, pain and joy had also helped shape their friendship.
Aquino will be among the featured guests in Abunda’s weeklong birthday special on “Fast Talk With Boy Abunda,” alongside Ruffa Gutierrez and Andrea Brillantes, from Oct. 26 to 30.
During their conversation, Abunda also asked Aquino what would convince her to return to television.
“And of course, no’ng tinanong ko siya sinabi nya, ‘I will only go back to television with the King,’” Abunda recalled, quoting Aquino directly.
The King of Talk said he was happy to hear her answer, although he clarified that he did not consider himself a king.
Abunda on ‘Machong Chismisan’
Meanwhile, Abunda addressed the controversy surrounding “Machong Chismisan,” whose members are facing an investigation by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) over their remarks about Aquino’s son Joshua, who has autism.
Abunda said he deliberately avoided discussing the details of the controversy during his conversation with Aquino because he did not see an opening to tackle the issue.
He acknowledged the apology of the hosts of “Machong Chismisan” but stressed that apologizing does not necessarily settle questions of legal accountability.
“Tama lamang na nag-apologize,” he said. “You mocked, you insulted a young man, who has no power to fight back.”
Abunda added that determining the group’s legal responsibility was a matter for the NBI, which he thanked for conducting the probe.
“Pero ano ang iyong pananagutan in the context of the law? That’s the business of the NBI,” he declared.
