The legendary theater icon becomes the first Filipina honored on the world-famous Hollywood sidewalk.
Filipino theater icon Lea Salonga is just days away from making history as the first Filipina to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The Hollywood Walk of Fame has given fans a sneak peek of Salonga’s actual star ahead of its unveiling on Friday, September 4, in Los Angeles. The ceremony begins at 11:30 AM Pacific Time, or 2:30 AM Saturday, September 5, in the Philippines.
Salonga will receive the 2,855th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the Live Performance category, recognizing a career that helped put a Filipino performer at the center of some of the world’s biggest theatrical productions.
Her star will be located at 6225 Hollywood Boulevard, in front of the historic Hollywood Pantages Theatre—a particularly fitting address for an artist whose international career was built largely on the stage.
Salonga became a global theater sensation after originating the role of Kim in “Miss Saigon,” a performance that earned her the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical.
She would go on to perform in “Les Misérables” and other major productions on Broadway and the West End, while generations also grew up hearing her as the singing voice of Disney princesses Jasmine in “Aladdin” and Mulan in “Mulan.”
“Lea Salonga is a true trailblazer whose extraordinary talent and decades-long career have inspired audiences around the world,” Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez said.
Martinez described the recognition as a milestone not only for Salonga but also for “the Filipino community and for generations of artists who will follow in her footsteps.”
The ceremony will be hosted by Emmy-winning journalist Sibley Scoles, with actress and fellow Walk of Famer Ming-Na Wen as guest speaker. Wen famously provided Mulan’s speaking voice while Salonga supplied the character’s singing voice in the Disney animated film.
Salonga was officially selected as part of the Hollywood Walk of Fame Class of 2026 under the Live Theatre/Live Performance category.
For Filipinos who have followed her journey from Manila to London, Broadway and stages around the world, the unveiling makes something symbolic quite literal.
Lea Salonga’s name will finally be written into Hollywood itself.
