Bridging the north and south through heritage in motion.

The streets of Manila have always been the veins of our heritage, but this May, the pulse of the city moves to the tracks. While new artists often struggle to find affordable spaces—caught between expensive gallery walls and commercial bazaars—a new initiative is reimagining our transit lines as monuments to local culture. By turning the daily commute into a heritage experience, two organizations are collaborating to transform the LRT-1 concourse into a living gallery.

Puesto Creative Events and The Nilad Community are teaming up with the Light Rail Manila Corporation to turn the train station into a cultural hub for two weekends.

A tale of two stations

A month-long heritage display is currently set up at the Central Terminal Concourse. From May 22-24 and May 29-31, the LRT-1 Ikot Manila Art Fair will run a two-week arts and crafts market at the Dr. Santos Station Concourse.

The choice of these stations highlights the bridge between Manila’s historic roots and its modern expansion. Central Terminal serves as the city’s heritage gateway, sitting just steps away from landmarks like the Metropolitan Theater and Arroceros Forest Park. On the other end, the newly opened Dr. Santos Station in Parañaque acts as a fresh anchor for the south, transforming a major transit hub into a lifestyle destination where new artists can reach a massive, diverse audience that might never step foot in a traditional gallery.

What’s most interesting about this project is the “open door” policy for emerging artists. Puesto Manila is actively looking for new crafters and artists to join the fair, specifically offering low concessionaire fees to make it easier for those just starting out to get their work in front of a massive crowd.

If you’re an artist looking for a platform, you can reach out to Puesto Manila directly on Facebook or Instagram.

How to showcase or shop at the LRT-1 fair

The heritage display at Central Terminal is best viewed during midday off-peak hours (10 AM-3 PM) to avoid the rush-hour crush. This allows you to actually appreciate the installations without being swept away by the crowd.
