Limited entrances, narrow passageways, and ticketing facilities are adding to congestion at the major LRT-1 transfer point.
The LRT-1 PITX station is drawing complaints from commuters over its cramped platform, limited entry points, and bottlenecks that become harder to navigate when passenger volume surges.
Commuters have described the space around the platform and turnstiles as too small for a station serving one of the country’s major transport hubs, with passengers entering and exiting having to pass through the same limited area.
The congestion becomes worse when trains arrive before passengers from the previous train have cleared the area, leaving commuters squeezed near the platform and ticket gates.
Commuters have also pointed to the limited number of turnstiles, ticket counters, and vending machines, which can create longer queues during peak periods.
Another recurring complaint involves a road-level entrance beneath the northbound platform that commuters say is not being used as a regular access point from inside PITX.
Opening that entrance and creating a proper pedestrian connection could distribute passenger traffic instead of forcing most commuters through the same access point, according to suggestions raised online.
Some commuters have also called for wider passageways and a safer pedestrian connection around the station, including an overpass or a clearer route toward surrounding areas.
Accessibility has emerged as another concern, with some passengers saying seniors and persons with disabilities still have to pass through congested areas to reach dedicated lanes.
The station’s location makes crowd management important, as PITX funnels passengers from provincial buses and other modes toward the LRT-1, while the Cavite Extension has made the station a major transfer point for commuters from the south.
PITX Station, officially known as Asia World Station, is one of five new stations under the Cavite Extension Phase 1. LRT-1 was averaging 323,000 daily passengers before the extension opened.
