The successors of Gary V’s Manoeuvres crew performed “Billie Jean” to promote the “Michael” biopic.
Manoeuvres Ignite, the successors of the legendary dance crew of Gary Valenciano, channeled the moves of Michael Jackson in a flash mob staged for the release of his biopic.
On April 23, SM Cinema and Universal Pictures PH shared a one-minute video showing the dancers blending in with the crowd of SM Megamall in Mandaluyong.
They converged at the Mega Fashion Hall entrance and danced to “Billie Jean.” They delivered synchronized steps, pointing, strutting, and moonwalking as onlookers quickly pulled out their phones to capture the moment.
American dancer Will Simmons choreographed the routine. He’s known for working with Justin Bieber, Chris Brown, Childish Gambino, Jason Derulo, Missy Elliott, Janet Jackson, Prince, Lil Nas X, BTS, and TLC.
Filipino filmmaker Perci Intalan, meanwhile, directed the shoot. In sharing the post on April 25, he credited his team at The IdeaFirstCompany and collaborators behind the production.
The flash mob coincides with the Philippine release of “Michael” on April 22.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua (“Training Day,” “The Equalizer” trilogy) and written by John Logan (“Gladiator,” “Hugo”), “Michael” traces the singer’s rise from being a Jackson 5 member in the ’60s to his “Bad” era first solo world tour in the ’80s. It stars Jaafar Jackson, his nephew, while first-time actor Juliano Krue Valdi portrayed the young Michael.
