Laguna Lake “amihan” issues trigger second major fine for West Zone giant.

Maynilad has been slapped with another fine for service interruptions, this time amounting to ₱54.3 million.

The company received a notice from the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System Regulatory Office on April 20, imposing a ₱54.3 million fine for failing to meet service obligations under its concession agreement.

The fine covers service interruptions that occurred from March 9 to 31, impacting around 165,518 customers in the southern portion of Maynilad’s concession area, where households and businesses experienced reduced or inconsistent water supply. Maynilad serves the West Zone of Metro Manila and neighboring cities in Cavite.

Maynilad attributed the interruptions to weather-driven changes in raw water conditions in Laguna Lake during the recent Amihan season, which ran from December 2025 to March 2026, noting that changes in wind patterns affected treatment and distribution capacity during peak demand periods.

This is the second penalty imposed on Maynilad in connection with the Amihan season. The company faced a ₱42.6-million fine in March 2026 over service interruptions during the same period, signaling continued regulatory pressure over recurring supply disruptions.

How to check for your rebate

Are you one of the 165,518 customers affected in the South or Cavite? In April 2026, regulatory fines like this are typically passed back to consumers:

  1. Monitor Your May 2026 Bill: Look for a line item labeled “MWSS Rebate” or “Penalty Credit.” This is your share of the ₱54.3 million fine.
  2. Verify Your Zone: The South Zone (Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, and parts of Cavite) was the hardest hit. If you experienced more than 24 hours of continuous interruption without prior notice, you may be eligible for additional compensation.
  3. Stay Updated: Download the Maynilad Alerts App or follow their SMS broadcast for real-time supply schedules.

Pro-tip: During turbidity spikes in Laguna Lake, keep a 2-day supply of water stored in food-grade containers. Has your water pressure returned to normal this week?

Not again. Maynilad is hit with a fresh ₱54.3 million penalty for service interruptions that left the South Zone dry this March.
