The visually impaired singer turns Marikina Public Market into her stage, wowing shoppers and netizens with stunning vocals.

Forget grocery playlists, shoppers at Marikina Public Market have Charmaine Tonic.

Known online as the market’s very own “Palengke Diva,” Charmaine has been serenading customers since 2017 with nothing but a JBL speaker, a magic cash box for tips, and a voice powerful enough to stop people in their tracks. As she roams the crowded aisles, she transforms ordinary market runs into free live concerts.

Recently, videos of her performances went viral, with netizens praising her impressive vocal range and effortless birit. Many were surprised to learn that despite having an inborn visual impairment, Charmaine continues to pursue her passion and brighten the day of marketgoers through music.

“Parang nakakahiya mag-abot ng barya kay ate, masyadong magaling,” one netizen joked, while others said her talent deserves a much bigger stage.

But for now, Charmaine seems right at home between vegetable stalls and seafood vendors, proving that sometimes the best performances aren’t found in concert halls—they’re discovered in the most unexpected places.
