Charcoal piece that went viral in 2021 lands major sale.
Self-taught Filipino charcoal artist Christian “Cort” Talampas has officially sold his artwork of Michael Jordan’s “Last Shot” at the Goldin 100 Auction for $207,400, or approximately P12.6 million.
In 2021, Talampas went viral on TikTok for the piece, a charcoal drawing depicting Jordan’s game-winning shot in Game 6 of the 1998 NBA Finals. The artwork, which took 72 days to complete, drew global attention from basketball fans.
The video amassed 596,500 likes and eventually reached a US-based collector, who helped connect Talampas with Jordan’s team. In 2022, the NBA legend personally signed the artwork and returned it to the artist along with other memorabilia.
A 2022 report by Esquire Philippines previously noted that Talampas had no plans to sell the signed piece. However, this appears to have changed when the artwork was put up for bidding at the Goldin 100 Auction in May.
“If you ask me why did I let it Go?… I did NOT!! Because the ARTIST is the ART and I AM My “LAST SHOT”, Nothing can take that Away from ME,” Talampas said in an Instagram post on May 26.
The final bid for the artwork was settled on June 29, with friends and supporters flooding his Instagram with congratulatory messages following the successful sale.
