Removal claim in Philippine Star opinion piece refuted.
The MRT-7 San Jose del Monte (SJDM) station will push through as planned, following reports circulating online that the end station of the line had been removed.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) clarified on May 31 that all 14 stations of the MRT-7 train line will be completed as initially announced, addressing claims suggesting a reduced alignment.
An opinion piece published in The Philippine Star on May 23 claimed that the SJDM station was removed, without citing any official confirmation or explanation.
“Just recently, we learned that the much-anticipated MRT-7 project… will only have 13 stations instead of 14,” wrote columnist Atty. Mary Ann Reyes.
The clarification from transportation officials effectively counters the claim raised in the opinion column, reaffirming that the original station plan remains unchanged.
In contrast, project details show a long-delayed but continuing rollout of the MRT-7 line.
The MRT-7 runs from North Avenue, Quezon City to San Jose del Monte, Bulacan via Commonwealth Avenue. Construction began in 2017, but its launch has been delayed multiple times due to the COVID-19 pandemic and funding gaps.
The DOTr announced last month that the MRT-7 will finally open to the public by the second quarter of 2027, with 12 out of 14 stations operational by then. The Tala, Caloocan and SJDM stations will be completed in 2028.
