Katya Santos addresses calls for a Viva Hot Babes reunion, explaining why a comeback isn’t happening while reflecting on the group’s legacy, gratitude to fans, and their lasting place in Philippine pop culture.
For years now, the call for a Viva Hot Babes reunion has echoed across social media, fueled by nostalgia and renewed interest in the iconic girl groups of the late ’90s and early 2000s.
But for Katya Santos, one of the group’s most recognizable members, the answer comes with clarity, honesty, and gratitude: “No reunion for us.”
Speaking on behalf of the Viva Hot Babes, Katya addressed fans on her social media with a message rooted not in disappointment, but in deep appreciation.
She acknowledged the unwavering love from supporters who continue to hope for a comeback, while gently explaining that each member now walks a different path with priorities that make a reunion unlikely at least for now.
Rather than framing it as an ending, Katya positioned it as a moment of reflection.
Viva Hot Babes, she stressed, holds a distinct and meaningful place in Philippine pop culture not because of hype, rivalry, or comparison, but because the group represented a specific era that celebrated confidence, individuality, and fearless self-expression.
They were not built to be technical performers or precision dancers. They were never meant to be.
‘We are actresses, not dancers’
“We are actresses and models,” Katya emphasized. Their strength was presence, personality, and visibility across film, music, and media. Viva Hot Babes was not just a group, it was a cultural moment that resonated with an audience who saw themselves reflected in that bold, unapologetic energy.
With recent conversations inevitably drawing comparisons to the highly successful reunion concert of the SexBomb Girls, Katya chose respect over defensiveness.
She openly congratulated the group, calling them legendary and celebrating their well-earned success.
The distinction, she said, is simple and honest: different styles, different strengths, same era.
There was never rivalry, only coexistence and shared history. While SexBomb Girls are celebrated for what they continue to do, Viva Hot Babes are appreciated for what they did. And that, Katya made clear, is more than enough.
Criticism, too, was met with grace. Katya acknowledged that everyone is entitled to their opinions, but affirmed that the group remains proud of the work they did and grateful that it still resonates years later. Some stories, she noted, don’t need competition; they simply live on in memory.
The Viva Hot Babes, also composed of Andrea del Rosario, Maui Taylor, Sheree, Jen Rosendahl, and others rose to fame after popularizing the OPM novelty hit “Bulaklak,” becoming a defining symbol of their time.
The Andrea Del Rosario perspective
Andrea recently revisited the reunion topic during her guesting on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,” recalling a moment that highlighted the ongoing public curiosity.
She shared how fans lining up for a SexBomb Girls concert recognized her at a mall and asked when Viva Hot Babes would have their own comeback.
“Nandoon ako sa mall, ’tapos, madaming nakapilang mga tao for their show, ‘The SexBomb Girls,’ na-recognize nila ako. And then, ‘yong mga fans tinanong ako ng: ‘Ma’am, kailan po kayo (Viva Hot Babes)?’” Andrea recalled.
While she responded positively to the idea, Andrea was candid about the realities behind it.
“Pinaplano namin pero iisip lang kami ng gimmick, guys, ’cause we are not dancers,” she said, adding, “We acknowledge kasi that we are not very good dancers like them (SexBomb Girls). We are actresses, models, all brought together, and boom, Viva Hot Babes.”
She also pointed out how life has taken them in different directions, some into public service, others deeply immersed in acting careers.
“Of course, we’d love to… Now we just have to sit down [and discuss this]. Hopefully, one of these days. You never know, right?”
‘Nothing more, nothing less’
Yet for Katya, the message today is grounded in acceptance rather than anticipation. Viva Hot Babes moves forward not with something to prove, but with gratitude for the love, the memories, and the era they helped define.
“We are who we are. We’ve always been. And we move forward with gratitude,” Katya shared, closing her message with “love and light” on behalf of the group. “Viva Hot Babes–nothing more, nothing less.”
Viva Hot Babes was not just a group, it was a cultural moment that resonated with an audience who saw themselves reflected in that bold, unapologetic energy.
