Stocks gave up their previous gains while the peso slid past its May record, ending the week under renewed market pressure.
Philippine financial markets ended lower on Friday, July 24, 2026, with the Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) giving up its initial gains while the peso sank to another record low against the US dollar.
The PSEi slipped 2.11 points, or 0.03%, to close at 6,281.01, erasing the modest gains recorded in the previous trading session.
Despite the slight decline, the benchmark remained above the 6,200 level, suggesting the market continues to trade within a relatively stable range even as investors look for stronger catalysts.
Peso hits new historic low
The Philippine peso fell to a new record low, losing over 10 centavos to close at ₱61.853 against the US dollar, surpassing the previous record of ₱61.75 set on May 18.
The local currency had remained at its previous record low for the past two trading sessions before slipping further. It reached an intraday high of ₱61.965, reflecting continued pressure as it edged closer to the ₱62 level.
