POV shines spotlight on bold, new stories from SHS, college students
Manila’s student film scene takes center stage once again as Piling Obrang Vidyo (POV), one of the most established annual interschool film festivals for high school and college students, runs its screenings from May 4 to 7—and admission is completely free!
Held across the UPFI Film Studio (May 4–6) and UP Diliman College of Mass Communication Auditorium (May 6–7), the festival opens its doors at no cost to the public, making it one of the most accessible spaces for emerging Filipino storytellers to be seen and heard.
POV features narrative, documentary, experimental, and animated short films that reflect the expanding range and ambition of young filmmakers across the country.
Organized by UP Cinema, POV is a youth-led NGO that advocates media literacy, creative expression, and access to filmmaking opportunities. Through its annual festival, it continues to democratize storytelling by giving students a platform to share lived experiences and community-rooted perspectives.
This year’s collegiate lineup includes entries from De La Salle–College of Saint Benilde, Ateneo de Manila University, University of the Philippines Mindanao, University of Makati, Cagayan State University, and Saint Louis University, while the high school category features Francisco E. Barzaga Integrated High School, Biñan City Science and Technology High School, and the Eugenio M. Lopez Jr. Center for Media Arts Senior High School.
More than a campus competition, POV positions student filmmaking as part of the wider cultural and entertainment landscape—an early pipeline of voices shaping the future of Philippine cinema, now open to the public, for free.
