Asia’s Songbird accepts that age is slowing her down despite selling out recent concert shows.
Regine Velasquez believes her age has made her “laos” and that it is time to slow down, even as fans continue to turn up for her concerts.
In an interview with broadcaster Karen Davila, the Asia’s Songbird candidly admitted she no longer sees herself at the same stage of her career, saying she has come to terms with the changes that come with age.
“Natatakot ba si Regine Velasquez na malaos?” Davila asked.
“Laos na ako eh. So ano pa ikatatakot ko, nandoon na ako?” Regine replied.
Asked why she thinks she has become “laos,” the singer said, “It’s the age. I’m okay with that. I have no problem with that. I’m very aware of it. I know where I am.”
Davila pointed out that Regine had just sold out a three-day concert, with the first day’s tickets selling out just hours after the announcement.
“I think I’m supposed to slow down. It comes with age. Here (in the mind), we still want the grind because we’re used to it. But our body is slowing down,” Regine explained.
When Davila brought up how her husband, singer Ogie Alcasid, continues to train her, Regine agreed but reiterated her point.
“Dapat, it needs to slow down na. So work should be that way also. And I’m okay with it,” she said.
Regine recently announced during her “FINALE” concert that she would retire some of her signature songs, explaining that she could no longer sing them as she once did.
Rather than stepping away from music altogether, the singer appears ready to adjust the pace of her career as she acknowledges the limits that come with age.
