From “Kalokalike” sensation to fish dealer, Christopher Diwata returns to showbiz as a Viva artist and joins Alden-Nadine series.

Thirteen years after first hitting the noontime stage, the man who gave the Internet the iconic “What haffen, Vela?” line is officially a signed artist.

Viral sensation Christopher Diwata has officially signed with Viva as an artist, marking a major milestone in a massive comeback story that nobody saw coming.

Diwata first captured the public’s attention on “It’s Showtime’s” “Kalokalike” segment, delivering an earnest parody of Taylor Lautner’s Jacob Black from “Twilight” that gave birth to the enduring catchphrase, “What haffen, Vela?”

The initial wave of virality even earned him indirect notice from Lautner, who replied to a comment on one of his TikTok videos that read, “Bro noticing everything except What hafen vela trend,” to which Lautner replied, “Yup but it’s not ur fault it’s mine.”

His newfound infamy earned him a talent manager, the screen name “Jacob Brown,” and a semi-regular role in the 2014 comedy-drama series “Confessions of a Torpe” alongside Ogie Alcasid.

When the show wrapped, however, the acting offers suddenly stopped. The young performer found himself at an abrupt dead end, entering a decade-long hiatus far removed from showbiz.

Over the next 10 years, Diwata took on whatever work was available, moving through jobs in real estate, working as a front desk clerk at a budget hotel chain, and stocking shelves at a home depot.

Eventually, Diwata married and relocated to Bataan to raise a family of four. In search of a more dependable income to put food on the table, he turned to fish dealing, buying wholesale fish at local ports at dawn and tending to his children by day.

“Ako po ay simpleng tao lang. Ako ay fish dealer,” Diwata reflected on those difficult years in an interview with ABS-CBN. “Sanay po ako, naranasan ko po talaga na walang pera. Ni hindi ko na makilala si Jose Rizal sa piso dahil wala akong pera. Hindi ko maisip paano kami nakaka-survive.”

Even through the daily grind, his passion for entertaining persisted. Diwata teamed up with two friends to launch a modest YouTube channel, creating paranormal vlogs exploring local cemeteries.

Then, the Internet intervened. Just last year, vintage clips of his “Twilight” impersonation resurfaced across social media, setting off a massive cultural wave that quickly eclipsed his original minute of fame.

Brands were swift to ride the momentum. E-commerce giant Shopee tapped Diwata to headline its Payday Sale campaign with a fresh spin on his famous monologue, while lifestyle brand Linya-Linya collaborated with him on a viral video and launched an exclusive revenue-sharing shirt line emblazoned with “I Know, Vamfire, Right?”

Beyond corporate endorsements, Diwata secured his own food franchise, joined indie powerhouse Ben&Ben for an impromptu jam session, and was even able to take a picture with P-pop icon Stell of SB19.

“Ang masasabi ko lang, first time, mababait sila. Walang maitatapong makisama,” Diwata remarked after his encounter with the boyband member. “Akalain mo ‘yon, hindi nila ‘ko tinuring na iba o mababang tao.”

That viral resurgence has now crystallized into a legitimate mainstream career. Following his role in the TV action drama “Mga Batang Riles,” he officially begins his professional acting career under Viva Artists Agency.

Consequent to his management contract signing, Diwata stars in “Love, Siargao,” a 26-episode romance series produced by Viu Philippines in collaboration with Viva Entertainment.

The project marks the first onscreen pairing of Nadine Lustre and Alden Richards, as Kara and Jao, two individuals swept up by the legendary “Siargao Curse,” a local lore suggesting visitors to the island either fall hopelessly in love or never leave.

For Diwata, who currently commutes between Manila bookings and his home in Bataan, the newfound stardom remains entirely anchored in securing his family’s future.

“Wala naman. Siguro nabago niya lang ‘yong life ko na ‘yong dating hindi ko nabibili, nabibili ko na,” Diwata shared in a separate interview. “Ako nagra-raket po ngayon, nandito ako sa Manila. Nagtitira lang ako ng budget ko na kakasya lang po sa akin. Lahat ng TF ko, ipinapadala ko po lahat sa kanila (family). Habang may opportunities naman, iga-grab mo lang para sa kinabukasan ng mga bata.”
