Senate honors PH dance crews for historic world championship medal haul

Five elite Pinoy dance squads brought home major global medals, proving the country’s street dance dominance.

Philippine pride is riding high as the Senate officially honored the Filipino dance crews who dominated the 2026 World Hip Hop Dance Championship.

Often dubbed the “Olympics of Street Dance,” the prestigious competition took place in Phoenix, Arizona, where Filipino dancers secured major podium finishes against competitors from around the world.

During a special recognition ceremony on September 8, five homegrown squads were lauded for their historic medal haul through Senate Resolution No. 591. 

Femme MNL and The Crew completely dominated the Megacrew Division, bringing home gold and silver, respectively.

In the Adult Division, HQ secured another gold for the country, while Folk Jumpers followed with a bronze. Proving that the next generation is already a force to be reckoned with, Sayawatha Jr. also clinched a bronze medal in the Junior Division.

The massive win did not go unnoticed by local lawmakers, with Senator Bam Aquino, chairperson of the Senate Committee on Trade, Commerce, and Entrepreneurship, leading the recognition of the crews for elevating the Philippines’ standing in the global creative scene.

“Ipinakita po ng ating mga Filipino dance crews kung ano ang kayang gawin ng Pilipino kapag nabigyan ng pagkakataong humarap sa pandaigdigang entablado. Sila’y tunay na kumatawan sa sipag, husay, at talento ng Pilipino,” Aquino said in an official statement.

As an all-queer dance troupe, Femme MNL also highlighted the importance of queer visibility in a male-dominated field, celebrating the milestone as something bigger than the group itself.

“This achievement is not only significant for the Filipino community but also for our LGBTQIA+ community here in the Philippines. We have made our mark. We are present, and we are proud to be queer,” the group said in a social media post.

With another triumphant year in the books, the Philippines continues to strengthen its reputation as a powerhouse in the international hip-hop and street dance scene.
