The Philippine Society of Sleep Medicine and Feng Shui expert Francis Gaw join the 8-Hour Movement to spotlight multidimensional sleep health.

When it comes to the conversation about sleep, the focus has moved from just clocking eight hours to understanding true sleep health. At the recent “8-Hour Movement” event by Uratex for World Sleep Day, the brand partnered with the Philippine Society of Sleep Medicine to reframe how rest is understood beyond duration alone.

Sleep is multidimensional, shaped not only by how long one sleeps but also by how quickly a person falls asleep, as explained by Dr. April Hernandez, a sleep expert. It also includes whether people are early birds or night owls, sleep regularity, and how refreshed they feel upon waking.

The discussion also turned to bedroom environments, with Feng Shui expert Francis Gaw outlining how a setup affects rest. He shared five key rules: avoid placing beds directly in front of doors or mirrors, never sleep directly under a beam, keep headboards away from restroom walls, position beds away from windows, and avoid rooms above garages or empty spaces.

Guests Amy Perez, Bea Binene, Alyssa Valdez, and Big Boy Cheng stressed that quality sleep is non-negotiable for maintaining energy, focus, and performance in demanding schedules—insights that resonate with busy Filipinos and workplaces alike.

Behind the initiative is Uratex, part of the Uratex RGC group, founded in 1968 by Robert G. Cheng and Natividad Y. Cheng with just ₱4,000 and 10 employees. What began as a promise to produce high-quality mattresses Filipinos could afford has grown into the Philippines’ largest polyurethane foam manufacturer. Today, the company operates 25 factories and 18 showrooms nationwide, offering products across electronics, automotive seating, textiles, food packaging, and OEM solutions.

By combining expert guidance, practical tips, and innovative products, Uratex’s 8-Hour Movement highlights how sleep has evolved from a personal routine to a practical driver of daily performance, well-being, and productivity—showing that better rest can make a tangible difference in both life and work.
