GMA-7 reporter shares detailed breakdown of her Makati Medical Center delivery, including professional fees, blood transfusion and baby’s expenses.
Mav Gonzales may have endured the physical pain of childbirth, but the GMA-7 reporter was in for another kind of shock when she finally saw the total cost of her hospital stay.
Mav recently shared a detailed breakdown of the expenses she incurred when she gave birth to her youngest child, “Maya,” in May at Makati Medical Center.
On August 10, the reporter took to social media to reveal just how much it cost her to give birth in a private hospital in 2026.
“How much did my birth in Makati Medical Center cost in 2026?” Mav began in her post.
She then listed the various expenses, all in Philippine pesos, starting with the birthing suite, which cost ₱1,580 per hour for 24 hours, plus ₱15,800 for the heated tub, bringing the total to ₱53,720.
Her normal delivery, including epidural, medical supplies, and medicines, amounted to ₱115,163.26.
Mav also revealed that she had to undergo a blood transfusion after losing a significant amount of blood, adding another ₱40,315 to her bill.
Her two-day stay in a suite cost ₱43,600, while her baby’s hospital expenses reached ₱30,284.
The professional fees also made up a significant portion of the bill, with the pediatrician costing ₱58,478, the anesthesiologist ₱128,306, and the OB-GYN ₱258,294.
“Total: 728,160.26; Less PhilHealth benefit: – 29,000 (for mom); -5,119.50 (for baby),” Mav detailed.
After the PhilHealth deductions, her final hospital bill came to ₱694,040.76.
“Final bill: 694,040.76. Starting a GoFundMe now [LOL emoji],” she jokingly added, poking fun at the staggering amount she had to pay after giving birth.
Mav’s post quickly drew reactions from netizens, with some pointing out that the bill could have been lower had she chosen to give birth in a public hospital.
Others noted that childbirth in a private hospital can indeed be costly, especially when additional procedures, professional fees, medications, and specialized services are included.
For Mav, however, the nearly ₱700,000 bill serves as a candid look at just how expensive giving birth in a private hospital can be even when the delivery is normal.
