Campus program expands access to NSV services, urging men to take active role in reproductive health and responsible parenthood.
“Family planning, not solely a woman’s burden.”
The University of the Philippines Diliman is stepping up efforts to promote shared responsibility in family planning, expanding access to free no-scalpel vasectomy (NSV) services on campus.
In partnership with DKT Philippines, a nonprofit that has provided reproductive health services nationwide since 1991, the university aims to “make safe and accessible vasectomy services available while promoting the idea that family planning is a shared responsibility—not solely a woman’s burden.”
Interested participants may register through sign-up links posted on the UP Center for Women’s and Gender Studies (UPCWGS) Facebook page, where schedules and other details are regularly announced.
The initiative has gained traction, with UPCWGS and DKT Philippines holding their second free NSV drive on July 7 after the inaugural clinic on June 9 quickly filled its registration slots.
The program supports the Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10354), while encouraging greater male involvement in reproductive health decisions.
UPCWGS stressed that reproductive health goes beyond medical procedures, noting it is also about “informed choices, bodily autonomy, public health, and building families with care, planning, and responsibility.”
