Meet Bayani Generoso, sign language interpreter behind viral music performances

Meet Bayani Generoso Jr., the sign language interpreter who has become an internet favorite for bringing hit songs to life through expressive performances.

After going viral for his interpretations of SB19’s “Gento” and Pablo’s “Butata,” Bayani is once again making rounds online, this time for his energetic sign language rendition of Baby Doll’s “Ohh La La.”

“He definitely didn’t sign up for this. Ang hirap kumita ng pera,” one netizen joked, while others applauded his dedication to making music accessible for the Deaf community.

Born in the Philippines before moving to Canada at the age 3, Bayani first learned sign language while working at a bank after finding out a Deaf colleague would be joining their team. What began as a way to communicate eventually turned into a lifelong advocacy.

Today, Bayani carefully studies every show’s script, rehearses his signs, and even practices choreography before interpreting musical performances. “I really want to give justice to that performer, to that song,” he once shared. “Every single time that my hands are in the air, I feel like it’s a gift.”

His viral performances continue to shine a spotlight on the importance of accessibility while proving that sign language can be just as expressive, entertaining, and full of life as the music itself.
