Commission reductions ranging from 1% to 10%—with some zero-commission moves—translate into higher take-home pay for drivers and riders, while passenger fares remain unchanged.

Several motorcycle taxi and ride-hailing platforms have reduced commission rates, with cuts ranging from around 1 to 10 percentage points, while some services have temporarily moved to zero commission.

The adjustments span both motorcycle taxi and four-wheel ride-hailing services, reflecting a broad downward shift in commission structures rather than uniform or isolated changes across the sector.

To understand what this means in real terms, the impact shows up in how a fare is split—not necessarily in what riders pay.

On a ₱200 trip at a 20% commission rate, the platform takes ₱40 and the driver earns ₱160. If the commission drops to 15%, the platform share falls to ₱30 and the driver’s take rises to ₱170—an extra ₱10 per trip without any change in the rider’s fare.

Even if the changes look minor at first glance, they add up quickly for drivers completing multiple trips a day. The effect is less about lowering ride prices and more about easing fuel-driven pressure on driver income, while platforms absorb part of the adjustment to stabilize supply.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has acknowledged the reductions, describing them as a positive step toward easing financial pressure on Transport network vehicle service (TNVS) partners amid rising fuel costs and broader operational challenges in the sector.

While the move does not directly translate to lower passenger fares, it is expected to help improve driver retention and service continuity at a time when operating costs remain elevated.
