Witness how Sparks has crafted this emotional story that heavily focuses on the enduring power of love between Noah and Allie. Its plot presents the challenges of Alzheimer’s, as the elderly Noah reads a love story (his and Allie’s) to his wife, Allie.

Kapamilya artist Benedix Ramos lands the role of the younger Noah, the main character in “The Notebook,” the musical adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ 1996 novel and the 2004 film of the same title.

“For me, young Noah represents the kind of love that is brave and sincere. He feels everything so deeply, and he isn’t afraid to show it. What I love most about his journey is how he dreams and works hard for it,” Ramos said in this radar Entertainment exclusive.

“To some, his dreams might not be as big, but to him, it means the world, and his love for Allie will drive him there. His love will eventually grow from youthful passion into something timeless and enduring,” the actor said.

Ramos has appeared in a number of stage musical productions in the past, like “Ang Huling El Bimbo,” “Tabing-ilog The Musical,” “Bar Boys,” “Next to Normal,” and a straight play titled “Dagitab.”

Noah Calhoun is Sparks’ protagonist in the story. He is defined by his belief in “perfect love” that goes beyond physical, financial, and even temporal boundaries. He has this strong faith in his love for Allie as his destiny.

His preparation for the role

Ramos reveals that preparing for the iconic role has been a very personal journey for him. “I first watched the film when I was younger, so revisiting it now as an adult has given me a much deeper understanding of his emotions, his love, and his vulnerability. It’s helped me connect with him on a more personal level.”

Also, he admits that there’s a responsibility to honor the qualities people already loved about Noah, especially after Ryan Gosling’s beautiful portrayal.

“Since this is a different medium and timeline, I also have to trust my own instincts and make choices that feel honest and truthful on stage,” Ramos pointed out.

Benedix Ramos as Noah
From past musicals to his biggest role yet, Benedix Ramos embraces the challenge of bringing Noah’s timeless love story to life on stage.

“As I continue studying the musical script, I’ve realized that while it may be different from the film, it carries the same soul. My preparation has really been about honoring that heart while bringing my own truth to the character.”

In the film, Gosling and Rachel McAdams play a young couple who fall in love in the 1940s. Its story is being read from a notebook by an elderly man telling the tale to a fellow nursing home resident.

Working with TGA

For years, Benedix has worked with several theater companies, and it has given him all the needed tools in doing his job as an actor. Today, in “The Notebook,” he’s been chosen by Theater Group Asia (TGA) to breathe into the role that Gosling has earned him as a matinee idol.

He shares, “With TGA, I really feel that I’m in good hands. I love how collaborative the process is, with international creatives working alongside our amazing Filipino talents. It’s a great combination, and I believe that mix makes the production even more special.”

“The Notebook” features the music and lyrics by Ingrid Michaelson and a book by Bekah Brunstetter. Sparks was also involved as a producer alongside Kevin McCollum and Kurt Deutsch.

The Philippine production is its international debut, set for a September 2026 run at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater in Makati City.
