Demand for custom sidecar builds expands beyond local markets.

In San Jacinto, Pangasinan, one small business is turning ordinary tricycles into highly customized builds that are now attracting customers from across different provinces nationwide.

Zendo’s Custom creates made-to-order tricycle sidecar designs ranging from sleek modern builds to larger, more elaborate units fitted with hydraulic doors, hatchbacks, upgraded lighting systems, and sound systems.

The rise of bespoke transport

Basic custom projects start at around ₱40,000 and include mags, side wheels, taillights, and wheel alignment. More advanced builds can reach between ₱50,000 and ₱70,000, depending on size and added features.

The shop has also begun attracting buyers from Laguna, Quezon Province, Tarlac, Zambales, Nueva Ecija, and other nearby areas, with deliveries costing around ₱15,000 to ₱20,000 depending on distance.

Behind the operation is a small team of mechanics handling multiple simultaneous orders, with demand reportedly growing to the point that ongoing projects no longer fit inside the garage space.

Is a custom sidecar a good investment?

Standard sidecars depreciate quickly. However, custom builds from known shops like Zendo's tend to hold their value better in the second-hand market, particularly in provinces where these designs are rare.

Hydraulic systems require specialized maintenance. If you are operating in a remote area, ensure you have a local mechanic who understands hydraulic seals and fluid before opting for the hatchback models.

Before commissioning a wide or oversized build, check with your local Tricycle Operator's and Driver's Association (TODA) and the LGU. Some cities have strict width limits for tricycles on narrow secondary roads.
