Launched today by the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the free parking initiative at LRT-2 Santolan Station offers slots for cars and motorcycles from 4AM to 11:30PM. This move, combined with a 50% fare reduction that brings the minimum train fare down to ₱6.50, is designed to incentivize the "park-and-ride" lifestyle for residents in the East, helping them avoid the escalating costs of fuel and city-center parking.
The move aims to encourage park-and-ride among commuters amid rising fuel costs.
LRT-2 passengers can park free-of-charge at Santolan station, the third stop from the Antipolo terminal, starting April 27.
Car and motorcycle parking will be available from 4am to 11:30pm daily, extending beyond the train line’s operating hours of 5am to 9pm, the Department of Transportation (DoTr) announced.
The move aims to encourage more commuters to park their vehicles at LRT stations and take the train to their destinations, returning later for their cars.
Passengers may avail of a parking stub from security personnel at the parking area, which must be validated at the station’s Passenger Assistance Office.
The development is an additional measure to assist commuters coping with rising fuel prices. The LRT-2 fare is currently 50% off for all passengers, with the minimum fare slashed to ₱6.50.
Mastering the Santolan park-and-ride
Ready to ditch the traffic this April? Here is how to make the most of the new free parking:
Arrive Early: While the parking is free, slots are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Aim to arrive before the 7AM rush to secure a spot.
Don’t Forget the Validation: The parking is only free for LRT-2 passengers. Make sure you keep your train ticket or Beep card handy when you visit the passenger assistance office for your stub validation.
Security First: While the area is monitored by security personnel, ensure your vehicle is locked and no valuables are left in plain sight. The facility operates until 11:30 PM, giving you plenty of time to return even if you work late.
Pro-tip: Use the 50% fare discount to explore the full length of the line. From Santolan, you can reach the University Belt or the Recto interchange for less than the cost of a liter of gas!
Skip the traffic and the parking fees. Starting April 27, the LRT-2 Santolan station is offering free parking for cars and motorcycles.
