Your dream of working in Japan just went fully funded.
If your ultimate goal is to break into the Japanese workforce, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) Government of Japan Internship Program has officially opened its doors for global talent. This is a highly selective, prestigious initiative designed to match top-tier young professionals with dynamic Japanese small and medium enterprises.
The best part is that you have options. You can take the online course right from your room, or you can qualify for the in-person course and spend up to 30 business days immersed in the vibrant workplace culture of Japan, fully backed by the Japanese government.
The financial support and benefit of this program is really good. For the in-person course, your round-trip economy airfare to Japan, travel insurance, and visa acquisition costs are completely covered. Your host company will arrange and pay for your housing; utilities—including Wi-Fi, water, electricity, and gas.
On top of this, you will receive a daily stipend of ¥ 3,000 (₱ 1,100) for the duration of your in-person stay. Even if you choose the online course, you will receive a daily allowance of ¥1,000 (₱370), along with a free computer and pocket Wi-Fi for your tasks. The package also includes free professional Japanese language training, cross-cultural seminars, and pre-departure career guidance.
Applicants must generally be between 18 and 39 years old and must either be current students in their final year or be university graduates. You need to possess sufficient proficiency in either English or Japanese, at least at the JLPT N3 or CEFR B1 level.
To qualify, you must hold citizenship in an eligible OECD/DAC country— the Philippines is fully eligible—and you cannot be currently residing inside Japan. Most importantly, this is for those who haven’t secured employment yet and have a genuine desire to work or build a career network in Japan.
Deadline to submit your application is June 30. The online course is scheduled to run from August 24 to September 18, while the coveted in-person batches are set to depart for Japan between October and December.
The selection process involves a rigorous document screening followed by interviews with the program office and your potential host company. Don’t sleep on this deadline—this is your token to fast-track your global career without the financial burden.
Apply directly to the official portal at https://internshipprogram.go.jp/english/intern/ to view the full criteria and submit your application before June 30!
