Airline rejects claims it was barred from Philippine flights, says operations remain normal despite CAAP payment deadline notice.
Contrary to reports circulating in the industry, AirAsia has not been barred from flying out of the Philippines over unpaid debts to aviation authorities, with the airline clarifying that operations remain normal.
In a statement on June 4, AirAsia said the rumors were part of a “deliberate smear campaign” aimed at undermining its reputation.
“Such narratives serve only the interests of those seeking to limit consumer choice and create conditions that could lead to a monopoly in the market,” the company said.
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) also backed AirAsia, saying that airline operations across CAAP-operated airports were continuing as normal. The agency said AirAsia was given until June 6 to settle its outstanding financial obligations.
The clarifications came amid online reports that AirAsia was ordered suspended due to unpaid debts to CAAP accumulated over five years. Passengers said their flights have continued as normal.
