Miguel Escueta’s latest album explores hope, conviction, and the courage to keep moving forward despite uncertainty.
For Miguel Escueta, music has always been a reflection of the world around him. With his latest album, “Stand In The Fire,” the pop-rock singer-songwriter draws from both personal experiences and the challenges facing the nation, creating a collection of songs rooted in resilience, hope, and shared purpose.
Leading the seven-track release is its title track, which began as a song about unity but eventually evolved into something more timely.
“Stand In The Fire, the carrier single, is an anthem about standing together for something a group collectively believes in,” Miguel explained. “Fighting for something together, trying to achieve something together while leaning on each other.”
The song was written years ago with friend Nicolo Villonco, but recent events gave it renewed significance. As plans for the music video took shape, Miguel found himself drawing inspiration from issues dominating public discourse.
“We wanted to write a song that’s somewhat of an anthem about a group standing together for something that they collectively believe in. And you see in the lyrics talaga ang message, but nag-evolve siya into standing together against corruption and standing together as a nation,” he shared.
Miguel admitted that frustrations over current events helped shape the track’s final message. “Iyong flood control, tapos iyong oil crisis, tapos ‘yong nangyayari sa Senado ngayon, parang iba. Frustrating. We just want to get the message out there. Hopefully, we can inspire people to stand up against it and stand up for what’s right, but of course in the proper means,” he said.
Rather than focusing solely on criticism, Miguel hopes the song encourages listeners to remain engaged and united in pursuing positive change. Beyond its lead single, “Stand In The Fire” offers a snapshot of Miguel’s evolution as an artist. The album brings together previously released tracks such as “Summer Dream,” “Pangako ng Bukas,” and “Bakit Ba Ganyan?,” alongside new songs “Handa, Honey My Love,” and an unplugged version of “Summer Dream.”
Among the album’s standout tracks is “Summer Dream,” which Miguel credits for reigniting his passion for recording and releasing music. Meanwhile, “Pangako ng Bukas,” featuring HALE frontman Champ Lui-Pio, was produced in collaboration with Mental Health Philippines to help promote mental wellness awareness.
The project also gave Miguel the opportunity to revisit older material while exploring fresh creative directions through selected revival tracks.
Helping bring the album to life were producers David Lina and Juni Devecais, longtime collaborators whom Miguel considers instrumental to the project’s completion. “David is pretty much a musical genius,” he said, praising Lina’s contributions both in the studio and on stage.
Of Devecais, Miguel added, “He’s been my partner in crime in this whole music thing since day one. I don’t think I’d be able to do all this without him.”
While continuing to manage his business, Frank & Dean Coffee, Miguel devoted much of the past several months to completing the album. “The past six months have been a blur, to be honest,” he admitted. “I’m so thankful for our team for allowing me to focus on finishing the album.”
More than a musical release, “Stand In The Fire” serves as Miguel’s reminder that even during difficult times, people can find strength in community, conviction, and the willingness to stand for what they believe is right.
