What was supposed to attract fans of “House of the Dragon” ended up drawing an entirely different audience: firefighters.
Several fire trucks reportedly rushed to MRT Guadalupe Station after concerned citizens reported what appeared to be a billboard engulfed in flames. Upon arrival, responders discovered there was no actual fire—only a highly realistic promotional display for HBO Max’s fantasy series “House of the Dragon.”
A video posted by netizen Kerv Mary has since gone viral, showing firefighters arriving at the scene to investigate the supposed blaze.
The billboard featured dramatic flame effects and artificial smoke designed to recreate the fiery world of dragons that has become synonymous with the hit “Game of Thrones” prequel. However, the display proved so convincing that someone alerted authorities, prompting an emergency response.
The incident quickly became a talking point online, with many netizens amused by the misunderstanding and praising the effectiveness of the campaign.
Others, however, questioned whether the promotion had gone too far.
Among those who weighed in was a netizen who identified himself as a fire volunteer, explaining why responders could not simply ignore reports of a possible fire.
“Hindi naman kasi namin pwedeng hintayin na lumaki pa ang sunog (kung totoo), para lang mapatunayan na sunog talaga kaya pinuntahan agad ng iba,” the volunteer, using the username chxstnn_, commented on Kerv Mary’s Instagram post.
The comment underscored the difficult position emergency responders face whenever a fire is reported. Even if the report turns out to be a false alarm, authorities are obligated to verify the situation immediately to prevent a potential disaster.
Some social media users argued that the incident resulted in an unnecessary use of emergency resources, noting that firefighters could have been responding to actual emergencies elsewhere.
Still, many could not help but admire the billboard’s realism. After all, few advertisements can claim they were convincing enough to trigger a real-life fire response.
“House of the Dragon,” the HBO Max prequel to “Game of Thrones,” is currently streaming and remains one of the platform’s biggest global franchises.
