Jayson Gainza reveals how Piolo Pascual helped him quit smoking and embrace a healthier lifestyle after years of daily habit.
Jayson Gainza revealed he once smoked daily but has since quit, crediting friend and fellow actor Piolo Pascual for helping him adopt a smoke-free lifestyle.
Looking back, Gainza said the turning point came during the taping of “Sa Piling Mo,” his first teleserye, where he worked alongside Pascual. At the time, he admitted he was a heavy smoker, a habit that did not sit well with his co-star.
“Ito kasi natutunan ko kay Piolo. ‘Sa Piling Mo,’ iyon ang first kong teleserye, yosi ako ng yosi. Kilala niyo si PJ, ayaw niya ng nagyoyosi, minsan nasa taping kami may isa akong kaha dinampot niya tapos ginusot niya.”
Surprised by the incident, Gainza recalled joking about how difficult it would be to buy another pack of cigarettes. “Sabi ko ‘Piolo! Ang layo ng bilihan ng sigarilyo.’ Sabi niya ‘Itigil mo ‘yan, ikamamatay mo ‘yan.’ Tapos naka-kuwentuhan ko siya, sabi niya ‘Kapag 30 ka na alagaan mo na sarili mo kasi hindi ka na bata at mabagal na ang metabolism mo.’ Tumatak na ‘yon sa isip ko.”
The advice stayed with him for years. When he reached his 30s, Gainza said he began prioritizing his health and making better lifestyle choices. “Kaya nung nag 30’s ako talagang mini-maintain ko na lang, tapos iwas sa pagkain.”
These changes eventually led him to quit smoking completely. Gainza shared that he has been smoke-free since 2010, the last time he lit a cigarette. “Yes, hindi na ako nag-yosi.”
Gainza shared his story after being introduced as one of the newest brand ambassadors of OWEN Regenerative & Longevity, a health and holistic clinic. He said accepting the partnership was an easy decision, as maintaining his health has become a priority.
His lifestyle shift aligns with the clinic’s mission to promote regenerative medicine, preventive healthcare, and longevity. The initiative was led by founder Dr. John Paul C. Pareja and operations manager Angelica Pareja, who aim to encourage more Filipinos to prioritize their health and overall well-being through their brand ambassadors.
