The Philippines’ population has reached 112,729,484, according to the results of the 2024 Census of Population (POPCEN) released by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), as the country marked World Population Day on July 11.
In a social media post, the PSA highlighted the latest official population count and underscored the importance of reliable demographic data in shaping government policies and programs.
“Every person counts,” the agency said, emphasizing that behind every statistic is an individual whose needs, opportunities, and well-being must be considered in building the country’s future.
The PSA said the results of the 2024 Census of Population serve as a vital reference for planning and decision-making in key sectors such as health, education, housing, employment, and social services.
According to the agency, accurate population statistics help ensure that government programs and policies respond to the needs of every Filipino and all individuals residing in the country.
The census data also provides national and local government units with an evidence-based foundation for allocating resources, forecasting future service demands, and crafting long-term development plans.
“As we celebrate World Population Day, let us continue to value official statistics as a vital foundation for inclusive and sustainable development,” the PSA said.
World Population Day is observed every July 11 to raise awareness of global population issues, including sustainable development, health, education, and equitable access to resources. The annual observance also highlights the role of population data in helping governments address the changing needs of their people.
With the latest census placing the country’s population at more than 112.7 million, the PSA reiterated that every individual counted in the census represents a life that matters—and a voice that should be reflected in policies for the nation’s future.
