“Echo Chamber” opens on July 12, 2026.

Two contemporary artists with strikingly different visual languages come together in “Echo Chamber,” a new exhibition that explores solitude, refuge, and the spaces people retreat to in order to stay sane.

Opening on July 12 at incubator art space gallery in Fairview Park, Quezon City, the exhibition features works by Daryl Feril and Ron Mariñas, whose contrasting artistic visions offer two very different ideas of personal sanctuary.

Rather than presenting a shared narrative, “Echo Chamber” becomes a visual conversation between opposing worlds.

Mariñas, known for his Greco-Roman figures infused with contemporary pop sensibilities, turns the iconic Birkin bag into a recurring symbol throughout the exhibition. In his paintings, the luxury handbag becomes more than a status symbol—it serves as a defiant emblem carried by protagonists navigating the realities of a dirty metropolis, squeezed inside MRT trains and crowded jeepneys.

His works also feature fragmented nude male figures that only reveal their complete form when assembled, reflecting themes of identity, vulnerability, and connection.

Complementing the paintings are hand-painted resin Birkin bag sculptures adorned with his signature sensuous bodies, further highlighting his fascination with Hermes and luxury iconography.

Meanwhile, Bacolod-based artist Daryl Feril finds his refuge in the countryside.

After earning recognition as one of the country’s sought-after illustrators, Feril returns to painting—his first artistic love—with landscapes filled with rustling leaves, cloudy skies, birdhouses, and the familiar sounds of roosters. His tranquil scenes evoke the slower rhythm of provincial life, offering a sharp contrast to the capital’s relentless pace.

Yet beneath the serenity lies unease. Feril transforms birdhouses into gas masks and helmets, introducing subtle tension into otherwise peaceful landscapes and inviting viewers to question what true refuge really means.
