Philippine Airlines doubles down on fleet expansion with 9 new Airbus A350-1000 jets

The latest order follows PAL’s planned acquisition of 15 Boeing 787 Dreamliners as the flag carrier expands its long-haul international fleet.

A day after unveiling plans to buy 15 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, Philippine Airlines has announced another major aircraft purchase, this time ordering nine more Airbus A350-1000 jets to strengthen its long-haul network.

The flag carrier has signed a memorandum of understanding to acquire nine additional Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, along with purchase rights for five more, reinforcing its long-term fleet modernization program and expansion of international operations.

The latest order signals PAL’s continued investment in long-haul travel, particularly on routes linking the Philippines with North America and other overseas destinations. A larger fleet of fuel-efficient widebody aircraft could support additional flights and greater capacity, benefiting overseas Filipinos, tourism, business travel, and industries that depend on stronger international connectivity.

PAL currently operates two Airbus A350-1000 aircraft on nonstop flights from Manila to New York and Toronto, while seven more from an order placed in 2023 are scheduled for delivery by 2028. The newly announced aircraft are expected to arrive between 2034 and 2036.

The Airbus announcement follows PAL’s order for 15 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, with an option to acquire five more, underscoring the airline’s long-term commitment to expanding its international fleet as it prepares for future growth in global travel.
