G. Araneta Avenue in Quezon City has long been notorious for perennial floods during typhoon season. But after eight months of closure and repair, the area today features upgraded roads, manholes, and a drainage system designed to handle heavy rains.
The improvements are part of Phases 2 to 5 of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) rehabilitation program, completed on February 25, 2026. The P500-million project used modern, larger High-Density Polyethylene pipes to improve water flow and reduce deep flooding that has long affected pedestrians, drivers, and residents.
Some residents remain cautious, recalling past drainage issues and concerns over waste management that could still block water flow.
Phase One of the rehabilitation along E. Rodriguez Sr. Avenue is scheduled for completion by May 2026. The agency continues preparing streets for the rainy season and improving public service.
