Philippine financial markets closed higher on Wednesday as stocks bounced back from the previous session’s decline while the peso strengthened for a third straight trading day.
Philippine financial markets posted gains on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, as both the stock market and the peso extended their recovery from recent weakness.
The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) climbed 49.01 points, or 0.78%, to close at 6,353.04, recovering from the slight decline recorded in the previous trading session. The index remained above the 6,300 level, suggesting buying interest returned as investors regained confidence after Tuesday’s modest pullback.
Peso extends recovery
The Philippine peso strengthened, gaining over 20 centavos to close at ₱61.41 against the US dollar, extending its recovery for a third consecutive trading session.
The local currency reached an intraday high of ₱61.65, around 11 centavos stronger than the previous session’s rate. The continued appreciation moved the peso further away from its recent record low, signaling improving sentiment in the foreign exchange market despite the currency remaining within the ₱61 range.
Wednesday’s session reflected stronger sentiment across Philippine financial markets. With the PSEi returning to gains and the peso continuing its recovery against the US dollar, investors appeared to regain confidence while remaining attentive to domestic and global economic developments.
