Philippine shares edged higher after the previous session’s losses while the peso weakened for a second straight trading day, keeping markets on mixed footing.
Philippine financial markets ended mixed on Friday, August 14, 2026, as the Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) regained some ground while the Philippine peso continued to weaken against the US dollar.
The PSEi climbed 9.05 points, or 0.14%, to close at 6,297.30, recovering from the previous trading session’s losses.
The gain kept the benchmark below the 6,300 level, pointing to continued volatility as the index struggles to sustain momentum above the key threshold.
Peso down a second time
Meanwhile, the Philippine peso weakened by over 10 centavos to close at ₱61.45 against the US dollar, marking its second consecutive trading-day decline.
The local currency reached an intraday high of ₱61.48, about 4 centavos weaker than the previous rate, keeping the peso under pressure amid continued uncertainty.
Friday’s session reflected mixed sentiment across Philippine financial markets. While local equities managed a modest recovery, the peso continued to lose ground, leaving both markets without a clear direction heading into the next trading week.
