
Philippine financial markets gained ground on Wednesday as stocks extended their rebound while the peso recovered slightly from the previous session’s sharp decline.
Philippine financial markets ended higher on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, as both the stock market and the peso posted gains, with equities building on their previous advance while the local currency partially recovered from its recent slide.
The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) climbed 39.75 points, or 0.63%, to close at 6,366.64, extending the gains recorded in the previous trading session. The index moved further above the 6,300 level, suggesting buying interest continued to support the market as it regained momentum.
Peso regains ground
The Philippine peso strengthened, gaining 8 centavos to close at ₱61.18 against the US dollar, partially recovering from the previous trading session’s decline.
The local currency reached an intraday high of ₱61.41, around 14 centavos weaker than the previous session’s rate, showing continued volatility even as the peso posted a modest recovery at the close.
Wednesday’s session reflected a relatively stronger tone across Philippine financial markets. Local equities continued their rebound above the 6,300 level, while the peso recovered slightly despite remaining within the ₱61 range, highlighting the differing pace of recovery between the two markets.
