Ex-BF Javi Benitez honors ‘Mommy Chit’ for warmth, advocacy and life dedicated to Filipino workers.
Actress Sue Ramirez is grieving the loss of her mother, Chit, who passed away following a hospitalization earlier this year.
Ramirez confirmed the heartbreaking news on Tuesday, Aug. 18, through Instagram, where she shared a photo capturing one of their cherished moments together.
“Mahal na mahal kita,” the actress wrote, accompanying the message with a white heart emoji.
In another post, Ramirez appeared inside a car as rain poured outside the window. Reflecting the weight of her grief, she wrote, “Kasabay kong umiiyak ang langit.”
The loss also prompted Ramirez’s former boyfriend, Negros Occidental Rep. Javi Benitez, to pay tribute to Chit, whom he fondly called “Mommy Chit.”
Benitez shared a photo of Chit holding a bouquet of flowers he had given her, remembering her for her warmth while also honoring the strength and convictions she carried throughout her life.
“This is how I will remember Mommy Chit… flowers in her arms, that radiant smile, beautiful and completely herself,” he said in a Facebook post.
He recalled that Chit was a woman who stood firmly by her principles and passionately fought for Filipino workers. Despite her strong personality, Benitez said her smile made people feel valued and appreciated.
“I brought her flowers whenever I could. She always gave back more,” he added.
Benitez also extended his sympathy and prayers to Chit’s family, expressing gratitude for the life she devoted to advocating for workers.
“Salamat sa imo kabuhi nga ginhalad para sa mga mamumugon. Pahuway na, Tita,” he concluded. The message translates to, “Thank you for the life you dedicated to the workers. Rest now, Tita.”
Beyond being Ramirez’s mother, Chit was also known for her work as a labor leader. She served as vice president of the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP), which also remembered her following her passing.
Ramirez had previously opened up about her mother’s health struggles in January when she appealed for blood donors ahead of Chit’s open-heart surgery. Details surrounding the hospitalization were not immediately made public.
