The actress opens up about her mom’s recovery, family struggles, and her emotional wish to talk to her again.

Sue Ramirez considers her mom, Concepcion “Chit” Dodd, the rock of their family, having raised her and her four older sisters.

During the press conference for “Project Baby,” a romantic comedy starring Sue and Rico Blanco, the Kapamilya actress recalled her mother’s sacrifices and how she took on all the responsibilities to give them a good life.

Sue’s American father, James Peter Dodd, suffered a stroke when she was six and passed away on May 22, 2013.

Last January, Sue asked for prayers after her mom was hospitalized and underwent open-heart surgery. She later shared with radar Entertainment updates on her mom’s condition and how their family is coping.

“Better,” she began. “She’s going through physical therapy now. Na-affect ’yong speech niya, ’yong walking niya, ’yong mobility niya, but ’di tayo susuko. Hangga’t may buhay, may pag-asa. Still hoping that she can walk again, so I can take her to places.”

Sue then admitted how much she misses her mom, especially their heart-to-heart conversations.

Sue Ramirez cherishes moments with her mom Chit, holding on to hope as their family navigates her recovery together with strength.

“Still hoping that I can have a proper conversation with her again because that’s what I miss since she got sick. ’Di ko na siya nakausap nang diretso, nang masinsinan, ’di katulad ng dati. That’s the weight that the family is carrying right now. We miss talking with our mom.

“I miss it when she calls me. I’m still having a positive outlook on everything. We’re still hoping na makuha pa ng speech therapy, na mabalik pa ang dating bangis niya. Mabangis kasi ’yong nanay ko. We’re excited to have a proper conversation with her again.”

Sue is paired with Rico Blanco in “Project Baby,” a romantic comedy produced by Regal Entertainment, written by Jose Javier Reyes, and directed by Eric Quizon. The film opens in theaters nationwide on June 10.

The Kapamilya actress expressed her excitement about working with the music icon.

“Grabe, when they mentioned it to me, naka-peg pa lang kung sino ang kasama ko. Noong una, ’di ko talaga sineryoso na si Rico raw. Tapos no’ng malapit na kaming mag-shooting, doon lang ako kinabahan kasi confirmed pala talaga siya.

Sue Ramirez teams up with Rico Blanco in “Project Baby,” bringing unexpected chemistry and kilig to a romcom pairing fans didn’t see coming.

“Pinaka-nakakatawang nangyari, noong na-confirm ko na si Rico ang gaganap, nakasalubong ko siya sa mall—as in out of the blue. Kausap ko pa best friend ko, ‘Bes, mayroon kaming project ni Rico, tuwang-tuwa ako.’ Pagbaba ko ng mall, nandoon si Rico. Sabi ko, ‘Grabe si Lord, He works in mysterious ways.’ Sa dami ng araw na makikita ko si Rico, noon pa. We said hi, tapos sabi ko, ‘O, magwo-work tayo together. Oh my gosh, I’m so excited,’ and the rest is history.”

Sue admitted she still finds it surreal that she got to work with Rico.

“Nakakakaba, actually. ’Yong presensiya lang kasi ni Rico—wala naman talaga siyang gini-give off na energy na kailangan mong matakot—but siyempre, kilala na natin siya. Icon si Rico. I’m very privileged that when he learned it was me, pumayag siya.

“I know na umaarte si Rico. Napanood ko siya sa ‘Lobo,’” she said. “’Di bago sa akin at ’di ako nagulat na umaarte pala siya, pero never sa buong buhay ko, sa buong filmography ko, na na-imagine ko na I’ll be with him in a romcom project. Never in my wildest dreams.”

When asked if Rico would be a good choice as a sperm donor, Sue agreed, citing the reactions of netizens who want to be in her character Sandy Montecillo’s shoes.

“Oh my gosh, sobrang daming nagpi-prisinta. I think ang dami. Doon pa lang sa dami ng viewers ng trailers at photos namin—’yong comments ng mga tao, gusto nilang maging si Sandy Montecillo. Gusto nilang malagay sa sitwasyon ni Sandy na, ‘Wow! May option ako na magpabuntis kay Rico Blanco.’ Nakakatawa, but I do think he’ll be a great father if he chooses to be.”

Sue also shared how happy and satisfied she is in her relationship with Dominic Roque. When asked hypothetically if she would be open to liking someone like Rico if Dominic were not in her life, she dismissed the idea.

“’Di ko alam, ’di ko iniisip na wala si Dominic eh.”
