The peso sank to another record low against the US dollar while Philippine shares reversed their previous gains, keeping both markets under pressure.
Philippine financial markets came under renewed pressure on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, as the Philippine peso fell to another record low while the Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) reversed its previous session’s gains.
The PSEi retreated 40.66 points, or 0.67%, to close at 6,053.23, giving back the gains recorded in the previous trading session.
While the benchmark remained above the 6,000 level, it continued to face downward pressure following the broader market weakness seen late last month.
Peso sinks to fourth straight record low
Meanwhile, the Philippine peso dropped to another record low, losing nearly 17 centavos to close at ₱62.565 against the US dollar. The latest finish surpassed the previous record of ₱62.40 set in the previous trading session.
The local currency touched an intraday low of ₱62.69, plunging as much as 29 centavos during the session and moving further past the ₱62 level as pressure on the peso continued.
Wednesday’s session pointed to renewed weakness across Philippine financial markets. The PSEi resumed its decline after a brief recovery, while the peso continued to set fresh record lows, leaving both equities and the local currency under pressure.
