Philippine financial markets suffered another sharp downturn on Thursday as stocks fell to their lowest close in nearly two months while the peso breached its previous record low.

Philippine financial markets ended lower on Thursday, August 27, 2026, as both the stock market and the peso came under renewed pressure, with the PSEi approaching the 6,000 level and the peso setting a new record low against the US dollar.

The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) dropped 132.65 points, or 2.16%, to close at 6,004.58, extending the losses recorded in the previous trading session. The index fell to its lowest close since late June, when it dipped to the 5,900 level, bringing the market closer to the 6,000 mark after another sharp decline.

Peso sets new record low

The Philippine peso also weakened, losing nearly 24 centavos to close at ₱61.888 against the US dollar, breaking the previous record of ₱61.853 set on July 24.

The local currency reached an intraday high of ₱61.89, around 22 centavos weaker than the previous session’s rate, bringing the peso closer to the ₱62 level amid renewed pressure.

Thursday’s session marked another difficult day for Philippine financial markets. The PSEi suffered a sharp decline and approached the 6,000 level, while the peso breached its previous record low and moved closer to ₱62 against the US dollar.
