Anton Vinzon’s ‘mature’ scenes in ‘Kamao’ spark concerns over age-appropriate casting

Anton Vinzon is receiving attention for his role in GMA Network’s action series “Kamao,” but some viewers are questioning whether the show’s increasingly mature material is appropriate for the actor, who turned 18 only this year.

The series marks a noticeable shift for Vinzon, moving him into a more physically demanding and mature genre compared with his previous projects.

In a recent episode, Vinzon’s character was shown being invited into a sexual encounter at a bar. While the scene involved a fictional adult character and was presented within the show’s storyline, some viewers expressed discomfort over seeing the newly turned 18-year-old actor in such material.

“Kaka-18 lang talaga ni Anton,” one netizen wrote.

Another questioned the production’s casting and writing choices: “Kung yung character niyo is 20-something plus, mag-cast naman kayo ng age-appropriate actor, or better yet, write a better plot if Anton would be Makmak.”

A separate critic raised the issue beyond the scene itself, writing, “Kaka-18 lang talaga niyan. Have some shame naman sa mga naging part ng prod nito.” 

The netizen argued that regardless of whether the fictional situation was consensual, the production’s decision to place a newly adult actor in such scenes raises questions about ethics and creative judgment.

The discussion has since shifted from the character’s storyline to the responsibilities of productions when casting young actors in mature roles.

As of publication, neither Vinzon nor GMA Network has issued a statement addressing the concerns.

The issue ultimately raises a broader question for Philippine television: just because an actor is legally an adult, does that automatically make every mature storyline appropriate for them?
